Jack Name Info
The enigmatic L.A. artist has recorded under a lot of names, like Muzz, Fictional Boys, and John Webster Johns. He says that’s because he’s „sort of anti-identity.“ „I like the idea of destroying identity… We’re all the same underneath it all anyway.“ His moniker, then, feels appropriate – „Jack Name“ somehow manages to sound even more anonymous than „John Smith.“
„Maybe I can start by saying a little bit about Jack Name. He is the only guy I know who can crush a joint by his lonesome and then look you right in the eye (and I consider myself an expert) and you would never suspect that he’s not floating right along in the here and now. He is ahead . . . the wheels are always turning unaffected by drugs, time or space. I met him first through White Fence, where he stood on a laptop generating noise along with guitar through, what is supposedly, an original homemade Grateful Dead speaker cabinet. How much good energy can one dude generate? Jack Name is a rare entity and a genius story/songsmith.“ John Dwyer, 2013
„A wonderful follow up to last year’s masterpiece “Light Show” – may we present “Weird Moons”. Here we have an eminently listenable but intrinsically weird pop record that is unlike anything else you’ll hear today. This record pulses with vitality and a mercurial strangeness, but is at every turn undeniably pop. So pop, in fact you would be forgiven for jamming to the tunes alone, but underneath the surface the lyrics follow an otherworldly concept, a bizarre and engrossing story, continued in some ways and with similar actors as his previous record, Light Show.“ Castle Face Records
