PAT CAPOCCI
Hard working and relentless determination are just two characteristics that can be attributed to Pat Capocci. Since forming nearly 10yrs ago, Pat Capocci has emerged as one of Australia’s most respected practitioners of Rockabilly and Roots music.
Growing up in the Maitland-Hunter region of New South Wales, Pat spent his early years listening to and being influenced by traditional roots music of yesteryear. At age sixteen Pat became a member of the Hunter’s very own Johnny Greens Blues Cowboys as well as the Torpedoes, and began performing at local pubs and hotels. Pat had a taste of live performance and decided to venture out and form his own band.
Many years later and with five records produced on the Presstone Label, including compilations with leading acts across Australia, and one album with Hollywood’s Wild Records, he has now signed with a brand new Australian owned Devil Wind Records and will be releasing his brand new EP ‘More Thrills Than Ever’ mid 2016.
Pat Capocci’s ‘all or nothing’ mentality has gained him respect on both a national and international level. Undoubtedly being one of Australia’s hardest working bands, it is no wonder why all ages and subcultures across the world admire the energy and passion fuelled music that is Pat Capocci.
With appearances at Viva Las Vegas, Rockabilly Rave, The Hot Rod Hayride, Screaming Festival and the Waldorf Weekender, the international rockin’ scene is no stranger to the combo. Audiences all across Europe admire Pat’s integrity and passion especially after he performed 15 shows across 8 different countries for his European tour of 2014. He then returned 3 times in 2015, and has been asked to return for the 12th time in his career to tour in 2016. Pat has also played alongside some of the finest and most respected international artists including Deke Dickerson, Big Sandy, Imelda May and Justin Townes Earle plus many more.
Pat’s unique style and charisma combined with his natural song writing ability has seen the combo transcend the typical novelty of the genre. Pat’s writing style blends a unique feel of western swing, jazz, country and blues, and in the same way that all iconic artists have, Pat has used the genre as a launching pad, deepening and broadening the integrity and timelessness of the music.
Pat’s energetic fusion of guitar greats such as Charlie Christian, Johnny Guitar Watson, Merle Travis, Django Reinhardt and Grady Martin, paired with great passion and determination, show exactly why Pat is regarded as one of Australia’s best modern Practitioners of Rockabilly music.
SPUNYBOYS
Formed in 2006, the rockabilly band Spunyboys, inspired by fifties american legends (Johnny Horton, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins, Ray Campi) and british rockers (Crazy Cavan, Cliff Richard, Matchbox, Jets, Flying Saucers), is on tour now to promote their second album Rockabilly Legacy.
Back in april 2006, Rémi (Doublebass/Lead Vocal) asked his brother Guillaume (Drums/Backin’Vocal) if he’d like to form a rockabilly trio. Félicien, an old sidekick, joined us a few days later to perform a gig at the end of the month. The brand new trio gonna give his version of the classic tunes of the Fifties‘ artists, such as Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly… they also play some tunes of teddyboys legends such as Crazy Cavan, Matchbox & Crepes N‘ Drapes… Impregnated with that style they love, they gonna make their own songs then.
At the beginning of 2008, the band parted friends with his guitarist and Kevin joined them. The three acolytes noticed a new unexpected synergy that drive them to go on the stage doin‘ various shows, rockin‘ festivals, moto clubs and goin‘ on.
Summertime 2010 was the recording period and the first album “Sunset to Sunrise”, completely produced by themselves, is released in january 2011, it will appear on french rock n’ roll compilations and on a few magazines.
The trio gonna tour a lot and it began to be incompatible with Kevin’s obligations. So, after 170 gigs, he asked the band to find a new guitar player.
The brothers didn’t hesitate about the next one : they called Eddie from Dijon and he directly found his place (as a guitarist & fellow traveller) thanks to his experience. They gonna pass the 200 gigs mark together at the end of 2011 and they’ll take the decision to make a new record to celebrate it.
Ten brand new tracks were written the first months of 2012 and the second album „Rockabilly Legacy“ will be recorded in the summertime with the new line up.
They keep on touring more and more and reach the 300 gigs mark at the beginning of 2013. They decided then to shot their first video clip „Don’t Ring The Bell“ to introduce the released of the album in march 2013.
So, the band Spunyboys is the reunion of three pro‘ & passionate musicians (That’s not incompatible). The brothers‘ complicity and the efficiency of their guitarist partner create a specialdynamic that have a vocation : Remind memories to experienced people and introduce a culture that endure for many decades to the youngest.
THE VARGAS BROTHERS
Rockin‘ Blues from the USA by Wild Records
On ‚Rockin‘ Blues‘ you get harmonies like only two real brothers could sing on songs like ‚Lend Me Your Comb‘ and ‚Cutting Class‘. Their original number ‚Wiggle Walkin‘ Baby‘ is nothing short of amazing. ..Watts..‘ guitar playing is explosive and shockingly fantastic!
Other stand-outs on the CD are the originals ‚Hooked On You‘, ‚I’m Ready‘ and the title track ‚Rockin‘ Blues‘. Wild Records have outdone themselves with this CD cover and the mixing on this is just about as close to mid 50’s as you can get. Be sure to check them out live and look out for a release.
